Americans should not only have the opportunity to vote but to protect themselves against the flu.

Vote & Vax is a national program of the community health organization SPARC (Sickness Prevention Achieved through Regional Collaboration). We work with all public health providers who would like to offer convenient flu vaccinations at or near polling places across the country.

Recognition for Vote & Vax

Vote & Vax is currently organizing clinics for 2012. For information on how your organization may participate, click here.  Vote & Vax received the 2009 National Influenza Vaccine Summit Immunization Excellence Award for Overall Season Activity, sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The award recognizes the outstanding efforts of the large number of providers participating in Vote & Vax 2008.

Election 2008 Successes

As part of the 2008 Presidential Election, participating Vote & Vax providers delivered 21,434 influenza vaccinations at 331 locations in 42 states and the District of Columbia. Of those vaccinated, almost half (47.7%) were "new" recipients, meaning they had either not received a flu shot in the preceding year or would not have otherwise been vaccinated. Vote & Vax is clearly expanding protection from influenza.

Vote & Vax In Action

Vote & Vax has built a network of providers across the United States who organized and run flu clinics at polling sites on or around Election Day. For many providers, such as Marshall County Health Department in Marysville, Kansas, participating in Vote & Vax 2008 was a chance to continue the success they had in 2004 and integrate the program into their regular public health practice.

“Vote & Vax staff’s quick response to our questions turned out to be critical in the eyes of our Elections Authority. I was able to ease their concerns and answer their questions which immediately assisted in bringing them on board.”
